Barge Accident at Baton Rouge Port Spills Oil

BATON ROUGE, La. — The Coast Guard responded to a barge accident that happened on Monday, Feb. 18 on the Mississippi River near the Interstate 10 bridge in Baton Rouge that caused oil to spill.

PORT OF WEST MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An unidentified body found at the Port of West Memphis on Friday, Jan. 18, is believed to be that of missing 60-year old barge captain,  Vernon Bumgarner of Louisiana, who fell overboard near Walls in DeSoto County Wednesday night.

BATON ROUGE, La. — In a statement on the Philippine embassy website, it is reported that on Friday, Nov. 23, a second oil rig worker who was hospitalized for injuries at the Baton Rouge General Burn Center, has died.

The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., confirmed Sunday, Nov. 18, that the body that was recovered by the oil rig accident site on Saturday evening was one of two missing Filipino maritime workers. The company says it has expanded its search for the other missing worker.
