Author: WASHINGTON — A lawsuit has been filed by Oceana, Defenders of Wildlife, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Center for Biological Diversity Tuesday, Dec 14, in U.S. District Court in Washington claiming that the federal government failed to take steps to avoid a repeat of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that occurred in April 2010.
WASHINGTON – According to the Obama Administration, BP and two other companies may face more citations for alleged safety and environmental violations stemming from last year’s Gulf oil spill.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier ruled last week that BP must face claims under general maritime law, not under state law, in suits brought by Louisiana and Alabama due to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill brought on by the Deepwater Horizon disaster on April 20, 2010.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier ruled Tuesday, Nov 15, that BP can not use Transocean’s insurance coverage to pay costs that were related to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that occurred last April in 2010 – stating that the carriers owe no duty to pay claims or defense costs to BP.

NEW ORLEANS, La – Researchers want cleanup workers and volunteers of last year’s BP oil spill to participate in a Gulf study that is looking at the long-term health effects of last year’s Gulf of Mexico oil spill on clean-up workers.

Kenneth Feinberg, the administrator of BP’s $20 billion restitution fund, told Congress on Thursday, Oct 27, that he has has paid out approximately $5.5 billion to more than 213,000 victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that occurred over a year and a half ago.
WASHINGTON D.C. – A year and a half after the devastating Deepwater Horizon oil spill that spewed over 200 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, the Obama administration is set to allow BP to resume exploratory drilling in the Gulf of Mexico but without any changes to the laws that hold companies responsible for the economic damages that such spills cause, according to the Huffington Post.
HELENA, MT – The Huffington Post reports in a recent article that BP lawyers are asking a district judge to dismiss a Montana lawsuit that alleges that BP took millions of dollars in insurance money and then left the state with the bill for cleaning contamination from leaky underground storage tanks.
ASHLAND CITY, TN – A maritime worker employed by Trinity Marine was injured when he fell 15 feet while working on a barge. The accident occurred on Monday evening, Sept. 26, around 8 p.m.
