U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier has received a stack of motions from BP asking him to seal testimony and strike evidence in the upcoming Gulf Oil Spill trial scheduled for February 27, 2012. According to The Wall Street Journal, the first criminal charges are being prepared by U.S. prosecutors against BP employees stemming from the Deepwater Horizon disaster that occurred on April 20, 2010.  The explosion killed 11 oil rig workers who were aboard the Deepwater Horizon at the time of the explosion.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier ruled Tuesday, Nov 15, that BP can not use Transocean’s insurance coverage to pay costs that were related to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that occurred last April in 2010 – stating that the carriers owe no duty to pay claims or defense costs to BP.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – U.S. District Court Judge Carl Barbier in a major 39-page ruling dismissed all state law claims, but instead adopted an expansive view of economic damage that could result from the oil spill and said that some plaintiffs may be able to collect punitive damages from the companies involved in the Deepwater Horizon explosion.
