The Ingram Barge Company currently have two lawsuits being filed against them in Illinois state court, that allege the barge incident on April 18, 2013, caused the flooding of the city of Marseilles. Ingram said they believe these suits to be entirely without merit.

ST. LOUIS — Shipping has resumed on an important stretch of the Mississippi River Wednesday, Feb. 6, after this week’s closure of Lock and Dam 27 near Granite City, Ill. Speedy repairs were made to the lock that was damaged as a result of a barge accident that damaged a gate on an auxiliary lock just before dawn on Tuesday that caused traffic to back up before the lock reopened 17 hours later.

A barge deckhand in Illinois was injured Monday afternoon after a line broke free at Lock and Dam 13 located on the upper Mississippi above the city of Fulton, the Clinton Herald reports.

In a telephone interview Tuesday, the Clinton Herald spoke to the Lockmaster John Mueller who confirmed that around 4 p.m. on Monday, a 1 1/2-inch-diameter barge line broke and hit a deckhand in the head, knocking him down. Other deckhands and crewmembers were able to secure other barge lines and stop the barges from moving, and were able to quickly call an ambulance for the injured worker.

The name of the injured barge worker has not been released however the Clinton Herald was able to confirm that the injured man is at Iowa City Hospital with non-critical injuries.

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL. – The body of a barge worker who fell into the Mississippi River while working on a bridge-building project on Wednesday, March 28, was recovered by search teams the following day. According to East St. Louis Police Chief, Michael Floore, divers found the body of 35-year-old Andy Gammon of Park Hills, Mo. on Thursday, March 29. East Saint Louis is located in St. Clair County, Illinois in the southwestern part of the state, about 93 miles southwest of Springfield and 42 miles northwest of Evansville.
