HALETOWN, TN – The search for a missing construction worker ended Tuesday, March 27, at around 10:30 p.m. CST, when the body of 31-year-old Abimael Contreras Martinez, of Morrison, Tenn., was found by Coffee County rescue squad members and divers from Winchester, TN. Martinez was found in the Tennessee River just below the U.S. Highway 41 bridge project at Haletown, Tennessee.

VICKSBURG, MS – A barge accident involving the Jeffrey G. Stover occurred Thursday morning on March 22 when the U.S. 80 bridge over the Mississippi River was hit numerous times after 33 of 35 grain barges broke loose from their tow.

Traces of the BP oil spill that occurred from the April 10, 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, were found in the zooplankton, which is part of the marine food chain. According to studies, this finding presents a hazard for the gulf food chain and possibly human health.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Kenneth Feinberg, the man who was in charge of the BP $20B Gulf oil spill fund, has been relieved of his duties and replaced by a new administrator.

The U.S. government plans to legally pursue BP, despite BP’s recent out of court settlement for $7.8B with individual plaintiffs. BP reached an out of court settlement with the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC) late on Friday night in one of the largest ever class-action settlements.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Twenty four hours before the BP oil spill trial was set to begin, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier agreed to postpone the trial scheduled for last Monday in hopes of a settlement being reached with the British oil company. 
BP Plc, operator of the Macondo well that caused the worst oil spill disaster in the history of the United States, is expected to reach a settlement with the U.S. Government for the disaster after partner Mitsui & Co.’s MOEX Offshore 2007 L.L.C. agreed on fines.
Italian TV has recently aired unseen footage inside the Costa Concordia cruise ship showing the crew’s reaction to the ship just prior to sinking. The video shows Italian Captain Francesco Schettino talking on the telephone about halfway into the video.
